Finally, baseball has it’s equivalent to the grand spectacle of the FIFA World Cup.

Well, almost.

After two mostly mediocre tries, the World Baseball Classic has finally gotten its act together.

The first round of games has been everything a tournament like this should be— the majority of the games have been damned fun to watch while acting as a showcase for a surprising array of talent from all over the globe previously unseen in Major League Baseball.

Granted, it has some issues still (Why is the Brazilian team almost all Japanese? Did the organizers really fold into pressure from China and call the Taiwanese team “Chinese Taipei?”) but if 2013′s edition has been any indication— this event has nowhere to go but up.
