The Journalism Club of Las Positas College announced today that it will be holding a fundraiser at Chili’s restaurant in Livermore on Tuesday Apr. 16. Club President and Managing Editor of The Express, Jason Leskiw, hopes that the event will be as much fun as it is beneficial to LPC journalism students.
“We as a club want this event to be fun,” Leskiw said. It’s one of the reasons we chose a Tuesday and Chili’s restaurant. There will be A’s, Giants and a Sharks game on all at the same time and people can come down with friends and watch, or have dinner with the family. All knowing that it benefits hard-working student journalists.”
He also added that participants have something to gain by going.
“We will be holding a drawing so that participants have a shot at winning A’s or Giants tickets,” said Leskiw. They will get to choose which team they want to see, and will be provided with multiple dates and times. I think It’s a win for everybody.”
He added that in order to be entered, participants will be required to Instagram a photo of the event flyer and bring their receipt to room 2409. They will then be entered into the drawing. The deadline for the entry is April 23.
The club, like many around the LPC campus, is lesser known. They are however, very active around campus according to members.
“Our membership isn’t booming, but it’s not bad either,” Leskiw said. We have had many members go onto four year schools and begin what seem to be fruitful careers right after graduation. In the currently growing economy and the transition of certain job skills and career paths, I think this is a great thing. For me personally, being a part of the Journalism Club at LPC has helped me grow as a person, but it’s also good to know that you’re a part of something that benefits people.”
