For the second year in a row, the Hawks men’s basketball team had three players make first-team All-Coast Conference North.
Jordahn Johnson, the 6-foot-8, 245-pound sophomore forward earned his second consecutive first-team selection. Sophomore guards Isaiah Victor and Jalen Patterson were also honored among the conference’s best.
The California Community College Men’s Basketball Coaches Association announced the selections Tuesday. The Hawks, seeded No. 13 in the NorCal bracket of the state playoffs, host Diablo Valley College at the Nest on Wednesday. DVC (18-10), which earned the No. 20 seed, beat Las Positas in Livermore on Dec. 9.
Johnson finished in the top-25 of all California JUCO players in points, rebounds and blocks per game. He started all 25 games he played for the Hawks and averaged 18.6 points per game. That ranked No. 22 in the state. Johnson had a field goal percentage of 60.6 percent, making him one of only two players among the top 35 scores who made more than 60 percent of their shots. Louis Walker from Los Angeles Harbor College (65.7 percent).
Johnson also averaged 11.7 rebounds per game (No. 6 in the state) and 1.8 blocks per game (tied for 17th).
Victor proved to be one of the best shooters in the state. Nearly half of his 16.4 points per game came from behind the arc. Victor’s 76 three-pointers made tied for the 14th-most in California. He shot 38 percent from three-point range. He had five games with at least 20 points this season, including a career-high 31 points back in November against Los Medanos.
Patterson, the Hawks’ other starting guard, averaged 15.4 points and finished second in the state with 7.0 assists per game. He had three games this season where he tallied at least 10 points and 10 assists.
LPC’s sister school Chabot College — which received a No. 7 seed in the state tournament after a 20-8 regular season record — also had three first-team selections: sophomore guards David Hector and Jaiden Rivera, and freshman guard Zach Broadous. Chabot sophomore forward David Ogunleye received honorable mention honors.
Chabot’s Diggy Winbush was named Conference North co-MVP with City College of San Francisco’s Mezziah Oakman. And Chabot coach Keenan McMiller shared conference Coach of the Year honors with San Francisco’s Justin Labag
