With the time to start applying to different colleges and universities coming up some students may still be looking around for where they want to go.  The U.S. News created a list of the top ten public universities for the year of 2014.

1. College of William and Mary (Virginia). The College of William and Mary in Virginia was the first school of higher education to install an honor code for students in 1776.

2. Georgia Institute of Technology.  The student body of Georgia Institute of Technology has an official mascot, a 1930 Ford Model A Sport coupe called the “Ramblin’ Wreck.”

3. Pennsylvania State University, University Park. University Park is one of 24 different campuses that are spread through out Pennsylvania.

Location: University Park, Pennsylvania. Mascot: Nittany the Lion. Website: www.psu.edu

4. University of California, Berkeley. There has been 22 faculty of UC Berkeley that have won Nobel Awards.

Location: Berkeley, California. Mascot: Oski the Bear. Website: www.berkeley.edu

5. University of California, Davis. UC Davis is the largest UC campus at 5,300 acres.

Location: Davis, California. Mascot: Aggie the Mustang. Website: www.ucdavis.edu

6. University of California, Los Angeles. UCLA has five undergraduate, seven professional and four professional health science schools.

Location: Los Angeles, California. Mascot: Joe and Josephine Bruin. Website: www.ucla.edu

7. University of California, San Diego. UC San Diego has won 24 sports championships and is part of the California Collegiate Athletics Association.

8. University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. In 1927 The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor started to have living Wolverines attend football games while in cages.

9. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been there for over two hundred years and is the nations oldest state university.

Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Mascot: Rameses the Ram. Website: unc.edu

10. University of Virginia. The University of Virginia is one of eight Original Public Ivy Universities.

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia. Mascot: Virginia Cavalier. Website: www.virginia.edu
