Student Government loans books to students
Associated Students of Las Positas College is continuing its Textbook Loaner Program designed to help students with the cost of course materials. The LPC Foundation is funding the program and the LPC library staff is managing it. Students are allowed to check out up to two books at a time for $30 each each. The service is first-come, first-served. Interested students can pick up an application and information on available books at the ASLPC office in building 1300-C.
New health magazine comes to LPC
Student Health 101 is a new digital health and wellness magazine for Las Positas students and their families. The magazine will contain valuable information and will have articles on time management, staying active, eating well, managing money, self care for common illnesses, mental wellness along with more information designed to aid students in dealing with their educational experience in a positive manner. Planned Parenthood back on campus
The Student Health and Wellness Center began serving students on Monday, August 20. Medical and Mental Wellness services are available for students on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday from 11 to 7 p.m. Family planning, access, care and treatment services for students are available through Planned Parenthood Mar Monte on Fridays, beginning August 24 from 9 to 3 p.m. Demand for services is high during the first few weeks of school. The Student Health and Wellness Center’s Tuberculosis testing appointments will also begin the week of September 3.
Budget cuts cause college to seek community handouts
Cuts at the state level have made Las Positas resort to a more direct approach for funds. A new program, known as Foundation 55, is designed to raise funding for classes that were cut over the past four years. Foundation 55 does this by seeking private benefactors in the community to sponsor classes at $5,500 each. Students registering for the fall semester could find themselves in one of six courses in English, Speech and Mathematics being added to the school’s schedule thanks to funding made available by Foundation 55. The donor’s names will not be attached to each class and students will not know if a class is supported by Foundation 55 funds.
