Leg-twisting for others on the dance floor, but seemingly fluid for Ballroom Dance Club(BDC) Vice President Che Akhundov as he taught LPC students how to take small steps and sway those hips. The Cha-Cha.
The club teamed up with the Performing Arts Club to throw a Masquerade Ball Saturday April 9 in the Black Box Theatre. Radio Club and the band Truth Without Fear provided the tunes while the rest of the clubs brought snacks, drinks and even a chocolate fountain complete with donut holes and strawberries.
Akhundov teaches at a dance hall where people pay him to translate the moves, but this free teaching opportunity was more to him.

“It’s a way for me to engage people in dancing,” said Akhundov. “I mean I came from a thousand miles away and I can still do the same thing here, so in a way it’s a universal language.”
Akhundov and BDC president Miri Akhundov are brothers who moved here from Turkey and picked up dancing from their parents at the age of six. Bringing the language of dance with them to the states, they had a common goal to start this club.
The band Truth Without Fear was a hit.
“It’s a great way for people to come together on campus and that really is the main goal of this event,” said Miri, “to bring people together.”
Although masks were required to fit into the theme of the dance, they came off to enjoy the event.
“This mask is making it hard to eat these donut holes,” grieved Will Sorenson as he lifted up his mask to chomp on that glazed mixture of flour and sugar.
