On Oct. 25, The Las Positas women’s soccer team went into their matchup against Cañada College Searching for their third win in the last four games, starting to pick up steam heading closer and closer to the conference playoffs.

Because this game is a non conference match, it doesn’t affect seeding decisions. Though with only three games to go until playoffs the Hawks hope to keep their winning streak alive.

The first half ended in a 0-0 tie, but wasn’t short of any action. Cañada came out of the gates putting multiple shots up and stealing possessions. The second portion of the first half saw the Hawks gain momentum, beginning to control the pace of the game, recording numerous clutch stops and shots on Cañada’s goal.

Cañada came out in the second half exactly how they started the game, playing fast paced and constantly applying pressure on the Hawks defense. This pressure eventually broke through when Cañada’s Yara Gomez-Zavala broke the 0-0 tie with a goal 6 minutes into the second half.

The next 20 minutes of the half was a defensive clash from both sides, with little to no shots or goals from either team.Yara Gomez-Zavala put up the second goal of the day with just 10 minutes left in the game, garnering a total of 6 season goals.

The hawks would make a late push with less than 10 minutes to go, finding a sense of urgency to come back in this game. Cebrina Cagoya led the comeback with a goal in the final four minutes.

Following this goal, the re-focused and energized Cañada team used their efficient time management and defensive prowess to close the game, defeating the Hawks 2-1.

The Hawks will look to bounce back from this tough loss on Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. when they have a non-conference home game against Evergreen Valley.
