School employee arrested, charged with two felonies

A Las Positas College employee has been arrested and charged with two felony counts after the school reported theft of school property. 

According to Alameda County Superior Court’s records, the school employee has been identified as Raymond George Salas, Las Positas’ lead warehouse worker. He was charged on Aug. 27 with grand theft by an employee and embezzlement by an employee over $400, both felony charges. 

Salas has pleaded not guilty to both counts and the case is still active. 

Both officials of Las Positas College and the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District declined to confirm the identity of the theft suspect citing employee privacy concerns. Officials did note they were following the process.

“We are, of course, cooperating with the Livermore Police but, just as with internal personnel matters, we assume a person’s innocence until proven otherwise,” Guisselle Nuñez, the district’s Director of Public Relations, Marketing and Government Relations said when contacted via email. “Thus, we have reached no conclusions here.”

The arrest was in relation to the theft of electronic devices that were the property of Las Positas. One source said a number of iPads were stolen. This prompted the school to get the Livermore Police Department involved, and their investigation led to an arrest. Salas was booked into Santa Rita Jail on Aug. 22, according to records, and was released on bond the following day.

Salas was a long-time employee of the District, with more than a decade of service, and was well-regarded among members of the Las Positas College community.
