Las Positas College has finally named a permanent president. On Oct. 15 during a meeting at Chabot College, the Board of Trustees officially nominated Dr. Barry Russell as the next LPC president, beating out Dr. Pamela Walker and Dr. Christopher Villa.
In the next few weeks, Russell’s contract will be negotiated. If a decision is made, he will be ready to serve next semester.
Russell is the current Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for the California Community College Chancellor’s Office. Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed Russell to that position in 2009. Prior to that, Russell served as the Vice President of Instruction at College of the Siskiyous. He also held the position of Dean of Fine Arts and Communications at Cerritos College, as well as at Southwestern College.
He first applied for the presidential position at LPC in 2011 and became a finalist, at which point he lost to previous LPC president Dr. Kevin Walthers.
This time, however, he is in the winning seat and will step into office in January, once Dr. Janice Noble fulfills her duties as interim president.
