In the two years since Miley Cyrus ended the “Hannah Montana” show, she has become the wild child of the decade.
To me though, she has become so much more than the poster child for irreverance. She broke up with fiancé Liam Hemsworth (rumored to be a genuinely good guy, cut off all of her hair, and has basically wiped out the actress that played Hannah Montana, who never dated boys, was always aiming for good grades, wanted to please her daddy and keep her best friends in life.
She is out of control, going crazy, and just performed the most genius act I have ever seen.
At the 2013 MTV Video Music Award’s (VMA’s), Miley Cyrus went further than anyone has before, and a lot further I would have ever believed her capable of. She performed to her current hit “We Can’t Stop” with dancing teddy bears and a tight corset on, and bearing a foam finger that she continually would perform sexual gestures with. At the end, Robin Thicke came out for a collaboration with Cyrus, Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz for his smash hit “Blurred Lines.” Cyrus stripped down to a nude colored bikini, and grinded with Thicke, while twerking on him.
She shocked everyone. I used to be in love with this girl named Miley Cyrus, with her long brown hair, long legs and slight tomboyish attitude. What she has turned into has blown my damn mind; however, she did something to make everyone talk, got all over the news, and yet several days later, everybody is still talking about it.
Miley Cyrus went all out. She was wild, sexual, crazy: there are so many different words to describe her. Celebrities everywhere were tweeting about her performance and her twerking on Thicke, enough to set a new record on Twitter, sending out 300,000 tweets per minute.
People like director Judd Apatow, known for directing movies like “This is 40” “Knocked Up” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin, didn’t seem to know what to think, sending out a tweet that read, “I’m glad to see Miley’s comfortable with herself.“
Other celebrities, from actress Brooke Shields to Kelly Osbourne were not impressed. Shields said “I was Hannah Montana’s mother. I do not approve. Where did I go wrong?”
The Parents Television Council (PTC) had much to say, as they thought not only Miley was guilty of an inappropriate performance at the VMA’s.
A spokesperson for the PTC then stated, “This is unacceptable. MTV continues to sexually exploit young women by promoting acts that incorporate ‘twerking’ in a nude colored bikini.”
While most of these celebrities have shown their disgust, and opposed what Miley did at the VMA’s, there are the others that seemed to not have minded it.
On Cyrus’ Twitter, she has a tweet from Rolling Stone magazine, where they said, “Miley Cyrus was the one star in the room that truly understood what the MTV Video Music Awards are all about! She stole the night, which is why the nation is still in recovery today. Thanks Miley.”
To everyone who saw what she did, and whether they thought of one side or the other, what Miley did was newsbreaking.
I thought it was quite disgusting at first. First of all, I couldn’t understand why she needed to act like that for a show watched majorly by easily influenced teenagers, and that her sexual actions were unnecessary. What I saw later was genius, newsbreaking, and set the entire news world on fire. Miley knew what she was doing, she did it exactly right and I applaud her for her courageous performance.
