It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, not christmas. March Madness.

“Selection Sunday” took place earlier today. The 68 teams who will take place in the NCAA Tournament are now set.

As always, you have your no. 1 seed powerhouse teams (Louisville, Kansas, Indiana, Gonzaga) and your potential Cinderella story teams like Valparaiso (I bet half of you don’t even know where that is) and Stockton’s own University of the Pacific.

It is now time to spend countless hours not paying attention to anything at school or work to fill out those brackets.

The beauty of March Madness is you don’t have to be a sports geek like me to participate. There are many ways to fill out your bracket.

You can go the hardcore sports fan route and actually study all the teams. Research every team’s strength of schedule,  find out which schools won conference tournaments, all that fun stuff.

If you’re not too big into sports (I don’t see how that’s possible) there are other fun and quirky ways to fill out your brackets.

You can follow the President.

Every year ESPN sits down with the president to break down which team will win it all. Nothing like seeing our commander in chief caring more about who’s gonna win a basketball game between LIU Brooklyn vs. James Madison instead of focusing on boring real world problems like a budget crisis (what is that, anyway?). If you’re republican and refuse to side with the president, be a rebel and pick all of his winners to lose.

You could also choose to go with which teams have the coolest mascots. May I suggest St. Louis? Their mascot is a Billiken. I have no idea what that is but it sounds pretty cool. I did a quick Google images search, looks awesome but still have no idea what it is. Google all of the schools that are on the bracket and go with the coolest mascots to win.

If you’re too lazy to do that, just go old school and draw names out of a hat to pick the winners. Simple. It may just be crazy enough to work.

However you decide to fill out your bracket, have fun with it. It makes watching the games on TV way more exciting.

Oh and get ready to have the song “Madness” by Muse stuck in your head for the rest of your life, every commercial on about five different channels advertising March Madness plays this ridiculously catchy song, and those commercials will only double once the tournament starts.
