Dear Community Member:
My name is Bekka Wiedenmeyer, and I am the current editor-in-chief of the Las Positas Express Newspaper. It is our 25th year as a student-run publication, and our goal is to provide our readership with the most timely and relevant news possible, both on campus and off campus, with the inclusion of features, arts and entertainment, sports, and campus-based opinion. The newspaper not only gives us the opportunity to service our readers, who extend far beyond the campus and into the Tri-Valley community, but also gives us the opportunity to build skills and practice techniques that will help prepare us for our future careers.
The Express is a weekly paper that distributes every Friday, with 12 eight-page issues per semester. Printing the paper is a costly process that is supported largely by ads, grants, sponsorships, and donations from around the community. Without these funds, we would not be able to service the campus or the community. You are what keep us going, and we value it greatly.
I hope that you will become a part of this process by supporting The Express through sponsorships and donations. Help us serve you by keeping the presses running, and help us as student reporters pursue our future careers and dreams. To show our gratitude, your sponsorship, along with your level of donation, will be acknowledged both in a printed thank you ad and on our website.

In the past 25 years, The Express
grew from a newsletter to a weekly publication with a circulation of 2000
- earned hundreds of awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges
- was honored by the Associated Collegiate Press, an international organization, as a finalist in the 2013 Online Pacesetter contest
- trained hundred of student journalists, many working as journalists or related jobs
- inspired the creation of Naked magazine, a yearly publication on its eighth edition
- thrived despite a shrinking budget ($3000 per year plus declining ad revenue)
- served as the center of a growing program that now includes radio, television, magazine, multimedia publishing as well as survey and skills-based classes
- served as the center of a growing program that now features two certificates and a degree
