On Friday May 11, students from the Dance Production and Choreography class, also known as DANC6, will tip their hats and perform at the Mertes Performing Arts Center.
“The Greatest Dance Showcase,” will feature music from the hit movie “The Greatest Showman.”
The extraordinary musical is a theme that is prominent throughout the show, and features music from other artists as well.
“A mix of contemporary, theatrical, hip-hop and tap dance. The showcase is a culmination of efforts from both students and guest choreographers,” said LPC dance faculty Susan P. Lloyd.
The guest choreographers each created their own piece for the students to perform.
One of the choreographers, Jessica Wolf, has performed on Broadway and is a director of an all female dance collective with over 20 years of experience. The other guest choreographer, Suzanne Beahrs, along with her dance company, has performed in several cities and was featured in “New York Times,” where her work was dubbed “grounded, silken quality.”
The students who have worked with the guest choreographers were thankful for their time in implementing their knowledge and perspective on dance .“A lot of these choreographers have such different styles, but they all portray it in this really amazing way,” said Jacob Zaionz, a student from the DANC6 class.
The showcase features solos, duets and group performances mostly choreographed by the students themselves.
“The students had ‘guided’ freedom in choosing their movement, sound, motifs and choreographic structure,” said Lloyd. A well-choreographed, perfectly timed performance by a group of passionate students who have taken their time to create a piece that encompasses their abilities as dancers.
The students of the DANC6 class are excited to perform their very own show to the public. Tickets are available online or at the door for $10 and the showcase starts at 8 p.m.
