Las Positas College has elected a new student trustee.
Kyle Mandell will assume the position after being elected over Jakob Massie in a Special Election that occurred from Sept. 9 through Sept 15. Mandell secured 56 percent of the total 64 votes. Voter turnout was low, with far under one percent of approximately 8,700 Las Positas College students voting.
In an online candidate statement, Mandell, a fire service major who started college at age 17, emphasized his desire to improve the culture at the college.
Mandell also said he wants to “contribute towards the development of our Public Safety program here at Las Positas College.” Mandell plans to become a firefighter after he graduates.
Mandell was scheduled to be sworn in at the Board of Trustees meeting on Oct. 15, 2019.
