Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer team plays strong but keeps coming up just a little short each time. They are not losing by much but can’t seem to get the goals scored when need be. The Hawks were looking to avenge their first round playoff nemesis from last year but it was not meant to be. City College of San Francisco shut out the Hawks 3-0. CCSF was able to get by the Hawks defense and score three times on goalkeeper Julio Narnajo. The Hawks were never able to get going offensively. On a brighter note and in a classic rivalry against Chabot College the men were able to come up big. The Hawks dominated as six different players had goals. Antonio Jimenez, Omid Eibagi, Salvador Morales, Constantine Charvet, Juan Guerrero and Alexis Lopez all scored one goal each. 6-3 was the final score and the most goals the team scored so far this season. Reality hit once again as the Hawks fell just short against Monterey College on October 9. Freshman Christian Barbontin Jimenez scored the only goal for the men’s team in the 2-1 loss.
Women’s Soccer
After missing out on the playoffs last season, the women continue to play hard, beat their opponents and make it their mission to not let that chance slip away again this year. The team has all the right things going for them so far. Their last two wins saw a solid effort by offense and a shutout on the defensive side. Freshman forward Hailey Mann led the way with three goals while freshman Ashley Carlton and Ireli Loyola each contributed a goal of their own. Goalkeepers Ali Nunes and Cheyenne McDearmid also combined for a total of ten saves to preserve the shutout 5-0 against Monterey. In another shut out this time against Foothill College, the lady Hawk’s Freshman Mildreth Gil and Mackenzie Paulo scored one goal each to lead the women to a 2-0 win. Goalkeeper Ali Nunes had eight saves.
Cross Country
The cross country team is currently ranked 3rd according to NorCal Rankings. It is on track to send some runners to state this year. September 24 At the Lou Vasquez Invitational Las Positas placed 2nd out of 12 teams and had the number one runner in the race. Jason Intravaia placed first in the men’s four mile run. For the women Maria Haral placed 10th out of 74 runners in the women’s 5000 meters at the race. The goal is to place 1st place in the conference according to cross country coach Steve Navarro. Intravaia would like to finish top 3 or top 5 in the state and he may get the chance to do so. Freshman Maria Harral is a tremendous talent as well and will definitely be an up and coming star for the LPC cross country team. Toro Park will be the scene for the Coast Conference Championships at the end of October. Navarro looks to finish amongst the top 10 in the state.
Men’s Water Polo
The Hawks have officially been introduced to intercollegiate men’s water polo. Led by coach Robert Arroyo and assistant coach, current LPC swim and dive head coach Jason Craighead, they have gotten off to a rough start. Winning only 2 out of their 12 games so far this season they look to improve and round out the season by achieving a couple more wins and put on a strong performance
