The Las Positas men’s soccer team recently had a home game against conference rival West Valley College. Las Positas comes into this game holding a formidable record of 6-7-1, with a conference play record of 1-5. Las Positas’ last game was on Oct. 18, 2022 resulting in a tough loss against De Anza by a score of 1-4.

West Valley entered the game boasting a record of 7-6-1, with their most recent contest being a home contest on Oct. 21, against San Francisco College. West Valley held a four game lead above Las Positas in conference play heading into this match, making this match crucial in conference seeding decisions.

The first half of this game ended scoreless, with both teams struggling to get much offensive rhythm going throughout the entirety of the half. With the inconsistency in both teams’ offense, the Hawks still managed to get two extremely close shots by Dylan Ersham.

Sophomore forward Griffin Lefleur says “We just have to remember to stay composed and relaxed when we get clear shots in front of the goal. As a team I felt we did play as one unit defensively and created plenty of chances going forward at the goal.”

The second half was a game of longer and strategic possessions. each seeing multiple passes while both the Hawks and the Vikings maintained their strong, defensive performances.

The lone highlight from the second half came from the Hawks defense, as they stopped three corner kicks from the Vikings via deflection. The score ended in a 0-0 tie as both teams never were able to keep any sort of consistency on the offensive end in the half.

A tie for the Hawks against the Vikings proved to be a small victory, as the Vikings had a better overall conference record heading into this matchup.
