Based on the comic book franchise of the same title name, “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” keeps to its colorful tongue-in-cheek aesthetic that makes the franchise as a whole stand out.

The film plays out as you would expect with a plot structure similar to the first film in which a grand villain launches a plan with millions of lives at stake and only the Kingsman can stop her. The plot is simple and generic but seamlessly fits with the over the top presentation of what the movie is going for.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” gets away with its cliches because of how self aware the film is. The movie doesn’t take itself too seriously and is well aware of what it’s trying to be, it’s just an entertaining film that isn’t trying to bring anything new to the genre.

What makes “Kingsman” stand out is it’s stylized appearance and cast of colorful characters that are both memorable and immensely entertaining. The antagonists are interesting but don’t leave an impact on the audience, their motives are explained but have no real depth behind them. For example, the film’s main villain played by Julianne Moore is well written and interesting but has very little screen time in which her character is developed, the audience doesn’t get involved with the character. This seems to be a common issue with a majority of the film’s new characters that are introduced, they all share a certain lack of depth that prevents them from reaching full potential.

The visual aesthetic and hyper stylized action scenes are the most unique aspect of “Kingsman”. The film relies on heavy cgi which helps with the tone of the film but at times the cgi looks bad and out of place which ruins the immersion of the film. “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” does justice to its comic book roots with its visual presentation and aesthetic, everything is vibrant and over the top delivering a unique sense of tone. The action sequences are similar to the first film as well, they’re well choreographed, fun and extremely violent.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” is an action packed film that does justice to its franchise and delivers an entertaining experience similar to its predecessor. Although it’s nothing extraordinary the film is an enjoyable watch. 7/10
