The Las Positas College Health and Wellness Center has undergone an upgrade.
Stanford Health Care bought out ValleyCare. And the offspring of that acquisition, Stanford Health Care ValleyCare has partnered with LPC to provide better coverage and access.
Located in the 1700 building, the newly supported health center now has access to Axis and Medicare insurances. Director Dayna Barbero said having Stanford Health Care’s structure is more empowered and partnering. Plans are in place to redesign the department and now the school has the ability to bring authorities on campus.
“We all work for a common cause, and that is to partner with students and empower them to be well and to eliminate any health barriers to achieve academic goals,” said Barbero.
During an eight-month process Dayna Barbero goes through leadership training and a Stanford’s operating system training.
Some of the health care employees are also LPC employees, while some are Stanford employees.
With Stanford buying out Valley Care, LPC health center’s main goal is to keep students’ stress free. The department has planned out programs to keep students from stressing out. The health center has created a distress program for students to relax including therapy dogs, chair massages, therapists and workshops.
The department has surveyed the campus about student’s health barrier.
“It’s the same here at Las Positas as it is nationally,” Barbero said, “because we have a traditional student population. (Ages) 18 to 24 is stressed.”
