The Hawks have landed new coaches and Las Positas Athletics has selected both a women’s basketball and women’s volleyball head coach for the upcoming 2022-23 season.
The unanimous selection for both coaches was made following an interview process that took place on April 11 and 12 in front of an organized committee.
Both coaches have yet to be named due to their ongoing hiring process with the college. This process is expected to take a few more days and the names will be released soon after.
“We are excited,” said Athletic Director James Giacomazzi, “We feel that we hit home runs on who we selected and I feel like we are really heading in the right direction with both of our programs.”
Giacomazzi has been working around the clock on getting coaches hired since the two teams paused in 2020. There was a competitive field of coaches applying for the positions exceeding double digits for both sides.
In just the last two weeks the interviewing process began heating up prior to the coaches being selected. Despite the competitiveness of the candidates, both selections were clear stand-outs according to Giacomazzi.
It has been two full seasons without both teams competing due to the COVID-19 induced shut down and the retirement of women’s basketball head coach Clarence Morgan.
Hawks women’s volleyball wrapped up their most recent season in 2019 with a 8-14 record. There were more than 80 volleyball players that had submitted the recruitment form to play on the upcoming team.
As for the women’s basketball team, the results were similar in terms of turn out for prospective players. The women’s Hawks closed out the 2019 season with a 6-20 record.
