All students that attend community and four-year colleges are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. California Community College Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley has urged students, faculty and staff to get vaccinated. Oakley expects districts to do whatever they can to ensure the safety of everyone returning to campuses and he advises everyone to now make a plan to get vaccinated if they haven’t already done so.
Las Positas will be making the vaccine available to students on June 16 and 17, 9 to noon in the school cafeteria. Appointments will need to be made. For an appointment:
“Californians 16 and older are now eligible to get vaccinated, so we want everyone to take this important step in protecting themselves and their communities so we can put this pandemic behind us,” said Oakley. “With many of our campuses serving as vaccination hubs, we are encouraged by the progress of vaccination deployment in our state.”
Starting Thursday, May 13, families can schedule an appointment for their 12 to 15-year-old children to receive the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
There are three main covid vaccines, which are Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. The difference between these three vaccines is that with two of them you get two sets of shots, meanwhile the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single dose. The vaccine that Johnson & Johnson have put out is now temporarily unavailable, because there were people that got blood clots from it and even had one person die.
Initially people had problems getting an appointment for the vaccine but now appointments should be more easily available. There are many vaccination sites throughout the state of California, however appointments are usually needed. Some locations that distribute the vaccine include the Alameda County Fairgrounds, San Ramon Diablo Valley College, along with many pharmacies and health care providers. When you get your first vaccine shot, you will get a card including the date of your vaccine, the vaccine lot number, brand and where you got the shot. The card will serve as proof of vaccination and should be kept.
In addition to preventing the spread of COVID-19, those who are vaccinated may be eligible for bonuses and special activities. Places like Krispy Kreme offer free doughnuts to those who show their vaccination record card. You will also be able to attend some sporting events, as some venues are requiring fans to share proof of vaccination. However, you will still be required to wear your mask at these games, even if you’ve been fully vaccinated.
There has been a slow down in people requesting vaccines. Appointments are readily available at most venues, pharmacies and medical centers.. Due to lack of clients some sites such as the Alameda Coliseum have closed.
