As the government turns the lights back on for their first full day back, one local agency turns theirs off.
BART will be shutdown for for the second time this year due to a strike schedule to start at midnight on Oct. 18. Negotiations fell apart Thursday, leading to the event many in the Bay Area dreaded. The strike will too impact Las Positas College students, many of whom catch the BART to school.
Wheels announced via its website it would maintain regular service in the event of a strike. So Wheels route 12, which stops at Las Positas College, will operate as normal. But Wheels will add direct service from the Eastmont Transit Center in Oakland to the East Dublin/Pleasanton BART station.
Students wishing to come to campus from Fremont, Oakland and Emeryville can take AC Transit to the Eastmont Transit Center. There, Wheels buses will available to bring you to the East Dublin/Pleasanton BART station, where students can take the 12 to Las Positas College.
The two-way service is free of charge and will run seven days a week throughout the course of the strike. Buses will depart every 20 minutes but the windo is limited. Wheels buses will be available from the Eastmont transit center between 5 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. The service will resume at 3 p.m., for those looking to ride Wheels back to the East Bay.
Wheels cautions riders to plan ahead as departure and arrival times are subject to traffic conditions, which could be brutal with no BART service. For more information, visit wheelsbus.com or call (925) 455-7500 for trip planning service.
* Another method to arrive at campus would be to carpool. Anyone looking for an available car to carpool in can visit rideshare.511.org and look for the closest location. Sign up is required for the RideMatch Service.
