Unless you are looking for a cheesy, predictable, horror film, or you are too afraid to watch a scary movie that is actually scary, “The Lazarus Effect” is not for you.

With no shock factor, viewers will have predicted the second half of the film by the time they’ve realized it took a shift from science fiction to attempt at being a scary movie. It’s an entertaining film that’s sure to keep moviegoers’ attention, just not how it’s originally expected.

Directed by David Gelb, “The Lazarus Effect” follows Frank (Mark Duplass) and Zoe (Olivia Wilde) and their team of researchers working on a new serum in hopes of giving second life to coma patients.

When a few twists take it to a whole new direction with a demonic Zoe.

Olivia Wilde plays a very convincing Zoe. And despite the film’s very predictable ending, it maintains a strong entertainment value throughout.

Viewers will easily leave the theater entertained, but confused at what they just watched because of the strange direction it takes halfway through.

There are the classic horror film aspects including moments that make you jump, but as for anything else to make it frightening, there’s nothing. Which is exactly why if you’re too afraid to watch an actually scary, scary movie, this is perfect for you.
