On Friday, December 1, 2017 LPC released The Express with an article titled State provides free tuition to incoming students.

In the article it is stated that the new bill is set to go into effect Jan 1, 2018.  While the bill is proposed to go into effect that day, it is to be noted that the funds have not yet been allocated. There are multiple criteria’s that will be established from the State, which every community college has to meet in order to be able to access that funding—and also needs to be established.

Again, Las Positas College seeks to support any opportunity to help students and will work diligently in establishing their criteria’s.

Further notification will be available when the college has additional information.

The best advice is that all students should file a 2017-2018 FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov) to determine if they qualify for a Fee Waiver for the current school year. More than 50% of our students already qualify to have fees waived using this method, and the fee waiver can be provided retroactively to last summer.

Students should also file a 2018-2019 FAFSA (before March 2, 2018 preferably) to determine if they qualify for a fee waiver for next school year, and to be considered for a Cal Grant and other sources of financial aid.
