An arrest was made on Thursday, Oct. 13th at 4:50 p.m. on the Las Positas campus after a student suspected of being intoxicated caused disturbances in various parts of the school.

According to student Zyrah Montes, the suspect is around 6’3” and was wearing a hoodie while carrying a speaker. His hoodie looked like it had something in it, perhaps some books by the looks of it.

He was running around screaming in another language and throwing chairs in the cafeteria while music was playing loudly from his speakers. Fortunately, he was unarmed and hadn’t assaulted any students. The situation was more of a public disturbance at that point.

However, the suspect’s antics escalated in the tutorial center at which there was a point when he assaulted a professor located in the 2400 building.

The suspect had allegedly pinned the professor against the wall and proceeded to walk in the tutorial center screaming in a French rap style. There was a sense of fear and confusion coming from the people in the room.

“I was there, I was actually working the front desk because I work here at the tutorial center.” Montes said.

“When the gentleman came in, I asked him to sign in. He screamed at me and ran down this hall. I was extremely confused, so I stood up to look after him. I heard him scream, and in my head I asked, ‘Is he special needs?’

“It sounded like he was yelling in some other language. It turned out to be French, and it sounded like he singing since there was music. He had speakers on him and it was playing music very loudly.”

Edgar Velasquez Lopez a student at Las Positas, was in the tutorial entrance with his friends at the time the suspect came into the room. Shaken by the experience, he feared he was going to die.

“At first I thought it was a joke because he was screaming. I thought, ‘Oh, it’s a joke’ but then he kept on walking around the tutorial center. Then he stopped and started just talking in his language, I don’t know. By that moment, I thought that this guy had a bomb. All my friends thought the same”, he said.

Lopez went on, saying, “I was thinking, ‘Is this really happening?’ At school doing your stuff, you don’t expect this at school. So I thought that I was going to die, but then the police came in. So this guy ran away, and when he ran away I just knew that dang, I’m saved.

“I don’t know what happened, but the police came and they got him. That was the worst experience of my life.”

A source who chooses to remain anonymous has confirmed that it took four officers to bring down the suspect and there was no clear understanding of what procedures were supposed to be taken, which was incredibly disturbing to the people who witnessed it.

The suspect was then arrested  at 4:50 p.m.

Officer Sugi refrained from commenting on the arrest, stating that the event is still under investigation and wishes not to comment at this time.
