Playoffs. That word has been foreign to the LPC men’s soccer team for years, until now.

The Hawks defeated Gavilan College on Friday, Nov. 8 by a final score of 3-1. The win clinched the division for the Hawks and they are now the Coast Conference North Division champions.

The team went undefeated in division play, which automatically gives them a berth in the Nor Cal playoffs. The first game will begin on Saturday, Nov. 23.

“This is just the beginning,” Forward Jonathan Orozco said. “We have to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Head Coach Larry Aguiar is proud of his playoff-bound squad. Even he has some trouble recalling the team’s last appearance in the postseason.

“The guys have been working hard all year,” Aguiar said. “They earned that banner that’s going up in the gym.”

The Hawks’ potential opponent for the playoffs is still unknown, but they will be prepared for whatever challenge they are faced with.
