Las Positas College has been opened for 53 years. Having a prime location, various campus resources and broad selection of courses, most would think LPC would be one of the top rated.

This thought however would be false.

A recent article on www.wallethub.com had a list of best and worst community colleges. Out of 821 community colleges, Las Positas College was placed 405.

While not being the worst, LPC isn’t the best either.

Hudson County Community College in New Jersey scored 27.10 percent. Costing $129 per unit and having one of the lowest rates for educational outcome and career outcomes.

Conducted by The U.S. community college system using a series of data points, the list is meant to help colleges and universities measure and potentially improve across shared principles of access, affordability and potential outcomes.

The hope is to provide information for potential students and families when deciding on colleges.

The sites analytics took the cost and financing, education outcomes and career outcomes into consideration when coming up with the list.

Helene Fuld College of Nursing located in New York was rated number one for having the total score of 68.88 percent opposed to LPC having 46.27 percent.

San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton CA was ranked 25 having an overall percentage of 58.05.

San Joaquin Delta College was also noted by wallethub to have the lowest cost of in-state tuition fees.

Las Positas College students as well as other community college students in California currently pay $46 per unit, so having a low affordable cost isn’t the problem for LPC.

But scoring a low educational outcome for students as well as poor career outcome played a major part when determining the best and worst community colleges.

LPC encourages students to book an appointment with a counselor to set up student success plans to help achieve college goals. The counseling office can also help determine majors if students are having trouble deciding which direction to go.  With help from the counseling office students of LPC can organize their future goals upon graduation.
