Selena Gomez, 24, has officially begun canceling dates on her “Revival” World Tour, following her tragic announcement that her lupus has been affecting her ability to perform.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” Selena told People. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness.”

Her tour was supposed to run through December 2016. It consisted of 56 shows over a course of twenty different countries. This left fans in Asia, Europe and South America sad.

In all honesty, let’s cut her some slack, please. Gomez has suffered multiple tragedies this year, and continues to keep it together.

In the past months her friend, singer Christina Grimmie died. In addition, her make-up artist Jake Bailey committed suicide earlier this year.

The young star was diagnosed with the disease in 2013, according to Daily Mail UK. Lupus is an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues. My grandmother has lupus and educated me in the illness. She explained to me that she takes medication for it. People can live normal lives with this disease.

According to The Lupus Foundation of America, “Lupus can range from mild to life-threatening and should always be treated by a doctor who is knowledgeable and experienced with managing a disease that is as unpredictable and diverse as lupus.” However, with good medical care, most people with lupus can lead a full life.

Gomez is determined to do just that, although the disease has affected her. “I was diagnosed with autoimmune disease, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break is really about. I could’ve had a stroke,” she said.

The media had a different perspective of Gomez’s illness. They made rude and snarky comments about her. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a–holes.’ “But I was angry I even felt the need to say that,” Gomez said.

“It’s awful, walking into a restaurant and having the whole room look at you, knowing what they’re saying. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again,” Selena said to Billboard Magazine.

Gomez is an actress, singer and philanthropist. Some of her songs like “Hands To Myself” and “Same Old Love” may be familiar from the radio. She is also the most followed person on Instagram at this writing.

She’s had many endorsements this past year such as Pantene, Louis Vuitton, Apple and Coca Cola. It’s easy to tell that she is one hard-working woman.

I don’t want to see any more headlines that bash her. If I see one more Justin Bieber headline, I’m going to be quite irritated. I was furious when I read “Selena: Overdose Drama,” on one of last month’s covers. That’s not the real story here.

One magazine in particular that I deem unethical is InTouch Weekly. Right after the statement of Gomez checking into rehab surfaced, they covered it in lies. They stated, “Sel’s downward spiral resulted after months of  excessive drinking and partying and while she knows she needs help, she’s living on borrowed time.” This is from the same magazine that said she was “pregnant and alone,” neither of which is true.

I want to protest these crude headlines outside their offices in New York. This type of bashing needs to stop! Where is the journalistic integrity anymore? These people are worse than TMZ.

There is talk though that Gomez will be moving to another facility. As far as the media knows, she isn’t happy with her treatment. She wants to become happy and healthy again, and it shows.

Her idol, Jennifer Aniston visited her at the center in Tennessee. She talked to her for a while and gave her a heart-felt letter from her friends, according to the Inquisitr. I am praying for her health and happiness.

I feel so sorry that she has to come out later to see all this in the media. I want to see her doing what she loves most. Despite what the media says, she will rise again. Don’t believe everything you read.
